Dan Victor, founder and principal of Victor Advisors, is a Harvard-educated attorney and executive with three decades of achievement in legal and business affairs in top-ranked companies, with an emphasis on domestic and international media and strategic transactions. Dan also has operational management experience in running businesses and educational initiatives around the globe.

Areas of expertise:

  • Legal and business affairs experience for nearly three decades crafting, negotiating and closing major strategic transactions with world-class multi-national companies in the media industry, including joint ventures, global licenses, mergers and acquisitions.
  • More than 15-years of experience in structuring, negotiating and closing license agreements, co-production agreements and joint ventures throughout the world with a wide variety of entities, including multinational corporations, local companies and state ministries and public sector organizations.
  • Nearly 30-years experience in (i) protecting and exploiting “gold-standard” global brands and their related copyrights and trademarks; (ii) planning, developing, structuring, negotiating and drafting complex business transactions for acquisition, licensing and exploitation of intellectual property across multiple platforms and channels; and (iii) managing intellectual property portfolio registration and protection programs on a global basis.
  • Broad experience with representing universities and not-for-profits in the field of education and media; in crafting and closing cooperative agreements and long-term grants from US and international development organizations; management and oversight of multi-sector transactions around the globe. Experience and expertise in all aspects of not-for-profit board oversight, best-practices and board secretarial functions and duties.


Prior to launching Victor Advisors in October 2009, Dan served as Executive Vice President, International Projects, of Sesame Workshop, the company that produces Sesame Street and other children’s educational properties around the world.

Until June 2005, Dan served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Legal and Business Affairs for Sesame Workshop, overseeing the organization’s legal and business affairs department. He concluded transactions involving the launch of PBS Kids Sprout, the purchase of the Sesame Street Muppets from The Jim Henson Company, and the formation and launch of Noggin, a joint venture between Sesame Workshop and Nickelodeon. He has also negotiated and closed co-production agreements, licenses and other media-related transactions around the world, including major deals in China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, Russia, Israel, and Jordan. Dan also served as Secretary to the Sesame Workshop Board of Trustees, responsible for all board governance and compliance with best practices.

Prior to joining Sesame Workshop in 1994, Dan served as a member of the legal department at Paramount Communications at the company’s corporate headquarters in New York, responsible for overseeing broadcasting-related matters. He served as Associate General Counsel of Columbia University from 1984 through 1988. Dan started his career as an associate at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York.

Dan graduated cum laude from the Harvard Law School, and summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Brandeis University. He is admitted to practice in the New York Federal and State courts and serves on the Entertainment Law Committee of the New York City bar Association.
